Winter in Miraz  2006/2007

A total of 1325 pilgrims visited Miraz in 2006 from 36 different countries. The breakdown was 754 (57%) from Spain, 232 (18%) from Germany, 41 (3%) from the UK and 298 (22%) from other countries. These were very encouraging numbers for the first full season.

So far the winter in Miraz has been very mild and all is going well. A new well has been drilled and is operating satisfactorily. The two gas cylinders supplying the cooker and water heater have been put outside, freeing up space in the kitchen and improving safety. At last, we have a telephone which has improved communications no end, although it needs moving into the office. Also, there is a second bicycle, a mountain bike which is now in constant use.

The caretakers have been in residence since November with a gap in December and work is being done on extending the path and replacing the outside washhouse floor. The Spring Working Party (21st to 27th March) is being organised and a programme of work prepared.

The architect hopes to have plans and estimates for the conversion of the outhouse available in March and this will start an exciting second phase in the development of Miraz.

A hospitaleros training day is being organised for 3rd February addressing a whole range of issues. With an almost full list of hospitaleros for 2007 a successful season is anticipated.
