Vézelay to the Pyrenees : updates 2006-08
STOP PRESS 31 January 2007:
Are you thinking of walking the Vézelay route but are worried about using a guide that is all in French?
If so, you may like to know that a new" English" version of the 3rd edition of Monique and Jean-Charles Chassain's guide, Itinéraire du Pèlerin de Saint-Jacques sur La Voie Historique de Vézelay, is now available through our Bookshop.
This latest edition of their guide contains a lengthy Introduction in English and a comprehensive glossary to enable those with only a limited knowledge of French to understand the route-finding instructions, accommodation details and information about historic monuments and places of interest. It has excellent maps, and costs £24.
Updates to the published guide are available here.
We include this message as we received it:
"We run a characterful and charming hotel in Thiviers which is between Périgueux and Limoges and on the route to Santiago. We would be delighted to receive more pilgrims who might be looking to receive our type of hospitality.
I will refer you to our website which will give you a good idea of our facilities and the " ambience". It is www.thiviers-hotel.com."
And have been sent details of another possibility in the Thiviers area:
Elaine and David Charlett run a B&B at their house, 'La Cote', 2 kms after the church in Thiviers town centre, directly on the pilgrimage route.

They have a website www.maisonnumeroneuf.com and are situated in the centre of town, towards the northwest.
A new one at Benevent l'Abbaye:
Clare Godson and her husband, former missionaries, have recently opened a Christian B&B in Benevent l'Abbaye: La Chouette (off the direct pilgrim route but overlooking the abbey) is at 17 rue Montlhery, 23210 Benevent L'Abbaye - tel: +33 (0)5 55 62 61 12 or +33 (0)6 76 79 15 88. Recieved April 2008:
Dear Sirs,
For some years now, we have welcomed pilgrims of Compostelle in our Auberge.
Most of them have found us no doubt due to our location off the beaten tracks, allthough we haven’t gotten around to setting up a promotional campaign, until now.
You can find us half-way between Autun and Château-Chinon, in the direct vicinity of the GR “Tour du Morvan” and the GR 13, as well as the route of Bibracte-Alésia.
Our Auberge can accommodate groups up to 8 people, divided in 2 rooms of two single beds and one family room with 4 single beds, on a half-board basis at 74 euros per couple.
In case of larger groups we can find supplementary accommodation in the village.
Futher information and photos are available on our website ; www.auberge-de-roussillon.com
Looking forward to welcoming you one day, we remain
With kind regards
