The CSJ's first pilgrim hostel to be established - back in 1991! Refugio Gaucelmo is truly a jewel set in a traditional stone building within the historic Camino village of Rabanal, up in the hills between Astorga and the Cruz de Ferro (the highest point on the entire route!)

Gaucelmo is a donativo albergue, meaning pilgrims give what they can for their stay. And they in turn receive a warm welcome from our team of trained volunteer hospitaleros. There is a fully equipped kitchen for pilgrim use and a cosy lounge complete with wood burning stove! The large garden and outdoor patio offer serene, relaxing places to rest. And breakfast is served in the morning!

We are also lucky enough to be located next door to a working monastery and beautiful Romanesque church, which is home to a group of very friendly monks who invite pilgrims to their services.
