The camino, England to Spain To prepare for the camino I began the first pilgrimage in England. Norwich Cathedral to Walsingham via Walsingham way. This was a good introduction to the camino, I did it over two days and my feet were red raw with blisters afterwards so knew I needed to be better prepared with anti rub socks and better walking boots. The trail is well sign posted and can get stamps at both cathedrals.I then took a flight to Santiago de Compestela and took the 6a direct bus to the centre from the airport (1 euro) and then bus to Ferrol from bus station (very easy to navigate).Day one spent pondering around Ferrol the start of the Camino Ingles, the tourist information is next to the docks which marks the start of the camino and get your first pilgrim stamp from there. They are very friendly and give you a map and info about the route. The camino is very well sign posted impossible to get lost.Day 2 walk Ferrol to Pontedueme. This was a tough week of walking as it was a fluke heat wave in July so temperatures got to 37 degrees. They sell Aquarius in almost every shop and cafe I highly recommend as keeps you hydrated. Lovely scenery, lots of places to stop and be mindful.Day 3 Pontedueme to Betanzos. Betanzos is a nice quaint town with lots going on, restaurants, cafes, very friendly local people.Day 4 Betanzos to Ordes. Slightly off the beaten track because hotels and hostels were full so had to go 2km towards the town however it has all the amenities needed.Day 5 Ordes to Sigueiro, lovely walking, not much hills, lovely hostel alberquerce English which was only 18 euros for the night, providing free coffee and breakfast, lovely people to spend time with from all over the world sharing storiesDay 6 Sigueiro to Santiago de Compostela, walked the final length with two Spanish priests who were friendly and stopped for breakfast together. Then receiving my certificate and my reflection for the walk. Mass was at 7:30pm get in at 7 to get a seat as fills up quickly. Top tips: two cotton socks so feet don't rub. A can of Aquarius in the morning before you head off so you know you are hydrated with salts (if doing in summer). Keep a spare 1litre bottle of water in bag in case you need it and some flapjacks for energy. There are many shops called 'gardis' which sell all sorts of food on the way so no need to panic or worry about food in route Manage Cookie Preferences
